Nesso has a population of only 1300, but has a bank (with cash machine), post office, chemist, several food stores, 3 cafe bars, a pizzeria and a lovely restaurant, the Tre Rose. The main tourist feature is the waterfall (l’Orrido di Nesso), which is close by the apartment. There are several firework displays in Summer including one on the lake in August, to celebrate the Festival of San Lorenzo, the patron saint of Nesso.
We often have breakfast in La Cascata, which is 10 minutes walk from the apartment next to the waterfall. They also have a pizzeria upstairs(middle image).
Hotel Tre Rose has great food, lovely staff, a terrace looking out over the lake and we can book a table for your first night. Another great lakeside restaurant nearby is the Hotel Aurora in Lezzeno, which is 10 minutes drive away towards Bellagio.
The nearest grocery store to the apartment is in the main square in Nesso (10 minutes walk away) Further afield, the Supermarket chain GS has 2 outlets in Como town. The nearest one which is on the lakeside road, is open 7 days a week. This is also the most convenient supermarket to reach by ferry and bus.
The Lake Como area is one of the most beautiful in Europe and getting the ferry is a great way to explore the lake’s towns and sites and the ferry stop is a 10 minute walk from the apartment. Click here for information about places to visit.
From Nesso you can catch the No.30 bus towards Bellagio, and the 30 or 32 towards Como from the bus stop in the main square. Of course you can always drive yourself, but if you fancy an evening out in Como, you can get a taxi back to Nesso
It’s good fun to hire your own boat during your holiday, and this company will deliver to the steps out the front: www.rentfunboats.com They speak English, but if you decide when you want the boat before arriving in Nesso, we can book it for you in advance.
There’s plenty of wildlife and we’ve seen Cormorants, Herons, House Martins and Black Kites from the apartment (Black Kite is Nibbio Bruno in Italian) and there are sunbathing lizards.
